Jesmyn received her MFA from the University of Michigan and has received the MacArthur Genius Grant and the Strauss Living Prize. She is the winner of two National Book Awards for Fiction for Sing, Unburied. She also has written numerous fiction novels and all of them are interesting. In this book, Jesmyn tells she lost five young men in her life. The reason behind these deaths is suicide, accident, and drugs. She decided to write about the experience of living through all the dying. Jesmyn grew up in rural Mississippi and she writes about the pressure this brings on the men, who do not have rights and the women who still stand-in for the family in the society, the men are often absent. She also lost her brother and father and write about them in detail, how they escape from her family life. Furthermore, she shows us how to listen to those who cannot often make demands to be heard. Jesmyn talks about the deaths of her closest people whom she lost in a span of five years. To sum it up, Men We Reaped is a warmly heartfelt memoir book for all the readers.
