A Walk in the Woods

A Walk in the Woods Book Summary

“A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail” is an inspiring and a truly fun read. Bill Bryson is the author of this book. His books include travel memoirs and books on language. His book “A Walk in the Woods” is an engaging light-hearted travelogue about the less traveled areas of Great Britain. As usual, Bill Bryson both educates and entertains as he moves through his travelogue. From the beginning of the book, Bryson is crystal clear that we know very little about Shakespeare. B.B. provides us with enough contextual information to help us draw our own conclusions. There are some very nice asides as Bryson explores not only the AT but its history, and the history of some of the sites that can be found along the way. There is some light invective about environmental impact man-made extinctions of certain flora and fauna, but Bryson doesn’t browbeat you with it. The guilt-level is low, while the point that we do have an impact on the world around us is still well made. In short, if you are looking for an armchair vacation, this might be it.
